Where to take pictures around Davis County, Utah
One of the hardest parts of a photo session is choosing where to have photos taken. Sometimes my clients will have a place in mind or want photos done at their home, but most often they want an outdoor scene close to home. Where I live we have fields of tall grass, mountain views, lakes, parks, waterfalls, ponds, and a variety of street scenes to choose from.
Here are some of my favorite places that I have taken outdoor photos. These are not in any order really, but just my thoughts about locations.
Great Salt Lake Shoreline Preserves
In Layton, Utah I love the tall grass and boardwalk at the Great Salt Lake Shoreline Preserves. It's a wetland area with mountain views and open areas. These kids were looking for a lion in the tall grass, but luckily no wild animals came after us. There are lots of birds and ducks around, but no mountain lions or wild coyotes. It's a beautiful area.
Kays Creek Parkway
Another fun place to shoot in Layton, Utah is the Kays Creek Parkway. This is a great location year round. I was here for several family sessions in the fall and there were beautiful colors. This area has tall grass, open fields, some hills, mountains background, and a pond. This is a shot of cousins playing in the couple of inches of snow we had after Christmas. We really had a good time! Here are some other photos.
Tunnel Springs Park
In North Salt Lake, Utah there is an open area with trails and fields. Looking west you can see the Great Salt Lake and to the east are mountains. It's great for a family shoot, kids, seniors, engagement photos, and extended family photos. Here are some photos from the park.
Woodland Park
For a really green background I like Woodland Park in Farmington. There is a lot of space for extended family photos too. This was shot in July but the park has a lot of shade and grass.
Kaysville Main Street
For senior portraits we went to Main Street in Kaysville, Utah for some fun urban shots. It's a nice casual scene and Main Street usually isn't that busy. I like the shops along Main, the brick walls, and doorways. I liked these shots.
I also went here with a family shoot and it worked well!
Farmington Pond
I've taken some family photos at Farmington Pond, Utah. It's a cute, little area with ducks and geese and often fishermen. In the winter I saw people out ice skating on the pond. It's fun for lifestyle sessions and a casual shoot. Below are some shots I've taken here.
Nicholls Park
Really close to where I live is Nicholls Park and the Baer Canyon Creek trail. We just call it "the hollow." It's a mile trail along the creek and has small bridges and wildflowers. It's a favorite place to walk and ride bikes for a lot of people. I often came here with my daughter to take photos and I took her senior photos years ago. Here are some recent photos I took of seniors and families in the hollow.
Antelope Island
I bought a year pass to Antelope Island because it is such an amazing place. There are wild bison, antelope, birds, horses and lots of open areas. It's west of Syracuse and has the Great Salt Lake around it. The beach is beautiful if it's not too hot or too cold. There are also amazing rock formations and interesting views. Here are some of my photos from Antelope Island.
Mountain Green, Utah
Another favorite place of mine is mountain green and along trapper's loop. It's close to Davis County but technically Morgan County. I had family photos taken here because I love the mountains so much. It's a great fall, summer, and spring location with long weeds and mountain views. Here are some photos of my family this fall.
