Family Pictures in Salt Lake City
One of the hardest decisions is where to have family photos taken. You can choose to have an indoor studio shot, which is more formal and traditional, or you can be outside with a beautiful natural background. Utah has a wide variety of locations for portraits. You can be at the beach, in the mountains, in the city, at the park, on sand dunes, by red rock, by streams, or tall grassy fields. Here are some of my favorite locations around Salt Lake City.
Tunnel Springs Park
North Salt Lake, Utah
Tunnel Springs Park, North Salt Lake
A favorite locations for many photographers is Tunnel Springs Park that overlooks the Great Salt Lake. You can see amazing sunsets and sunrises from this park. There are wooden fences, tall grass and weeds, rolling hills, and lots of room for kids to run and play.
On the weekends it's a busy park with bikers, runners, and people walking dogs. Of course there are a lot of photographers in the spring, summer, and fall months here too. But there is enough room for hundreds of people, large groups, and all the photographers.
In the spring time the hills are light green and the weeds are green too. Summer has white fields of tall grass. Fall has sunflowers around and other wild flowers. Winter brings snowy hillsides and snowy views. It's beautiful year round here.
Memory Grove
Salt Lake City, Utah
Memory Grove
Right by downtown Salt Lake City is memory grove. It's a beautiful park with a bridge, pond, columns, rose gardens, lots of grass and room for photos. It's a favorite place for wedding photos, but it's also a great place for family photos. I love the reflection of the pond with people beside it. You can have a variety of photos and backgrounds in this park. Sometimes it's hard to find parking, but I'd come back here again and again to see this park.
Antelope Island
Syracuse, Utah
Antelope Island
Spring and fall are beautiful times for Antelope Island and the bugs are not biting. In the summer lots of bugs are out here so I'd go when it's cooler.
I took photos here in the spring time with green grass, wild flowers and beautiful rocks around. It's a fun place for a family photo session with a variety of location ideas. You can be on the rocks, on the grass and weedy areas, or by the beach. Antelope island does have antelope and bison that are wild and roam around. Just be sure not to get too close to them. Normally they leave you alone.
There are restrooms by the camp sites, but they are not very pleasant. Bring water and snacks for kids when you come here. It's a bit of a drive from the causeway and takes a minute to drive to locations.
Murray Park
Salt Lake City, Utah
Murray Park
If you're looking for a beautiful pond and tall pines in a grassy area Murray Park is a great location. On the weekends it's busy here, but the park has room enough for picnics, parties, and photographers. It's a shady location before sunset and is full of greens.
Here are some shots at Murray Park in Salt Lake City
Saltair
By the Great Salt Lake Saltair is a beautiful place. The Beach is white sand and the water reflects beautifully.
Garden Park Ward
In downtown Salt Lake City there is an old church with a beautiful garden area and fenced area. There is a bridge, pond, lots of shade, and unique backdrops.
Here's a shot of fall here:
