Hey Dad, This post is for you to get onboard for family photos.

If you’re like most men, you don’t want to have family photos taken. Ever. My husband dreads photos and being in photos. My boys aren’t that excited either, except when they need a photo of themselves for school or a headshot for LinkedIn. Then they want my help. What are the common complaints to having family photos taken?

  • Scheduling photos is a hassle

I have an online calendar so you can schedule your photo session without a phone call if you want. You pick the date and time that works for you, pay the deposit online, and you're set.

  • Stress of getting family ready

To prepare for the session I will send you suggestions of what to wear and where my favorite locations are outdoors (or you can have the session in your home, which is easier for you!) I'll tell you what to expect, and answer any questions you have. Basically you just have to pick comfortable clothes out of your closet that blend together.

  • Taking too long

My full family sessions are an hour. In an hour I take photos of the whole family, all the kids together, kids alone, parents alone, and other combinations and different backgrounds at an outdoor location. You'll have a full gallery of images in an hour. I’m efficient with your time and it goes quickly.

Another option is to have a 30 minute session. In a half hour you will have less photos to choose from, but I can get everyone together, kids together, and kids alone. A lot of people want a short 30 minute session. Often a 30 minute session turns into an hour because they want more photos. It’s that fun!

  • Doesn’t like himself in photos

I aim to have you look your best through flattering angles and portrait lenses. I have not found an iPhone photo selfie I like because the camera is great for wide angle shots, but not for closeup portraits. A professional photographer will make you look good! Trust me.

I want your photo session to feel easy and simple. I’m an easy going photographer with lots of patience. I haven’t had to reschedule a shoot because the kids were not behaving. Crying and being grumpy might be part of the photo session, but I know how to handle kids and people are amazed at how I can get kids to work with me. So, let me take the lead and direct the photography session. I will tell your kids what to do and where to go. Our session will be more like play and casual. I want to capture real emotions in your photos. I take traditional shots (the “everyone look and smile” picture) and I also take candid fun shots. (See this post on what to expect during the photo session.) The goal is to make a memory of your family as you are right now through photographs.

  • Worry about the cost

I’m sure you have lots of snapshots from your phone, but that phone was an investment. iPhones cost a thousand dollars. It’s great for wide angle shots but not for wall portraits of your family.

How do you want to be remembered by your kids? How would they feel to see dad playing with them and snuggling in photos when they were little? How does it feel to hang up a family photo in your home and know these are the people that matter most?

As time goes on your family photos will become priceless. It’s your family history and a memory to last forever.

Let's make a memory together

Michelle was absolutely amazing to work with! She was very interactive with my kids and made us feel so comfortable. The shots she got of our family were incredible! We couldn't have asked for more. We will definitely be return customers!
